As a Berlitz Japan instructor, your main role is to help students build confidence and practical communication skills through engaging, immersive lessons. You’ll teach using the Berlitz Method®, which focuses on speaking and listening in the target language from the very first lesson. All lesson materials and objectives are provided, so you can focus on teaching rather than lesson creation.
You’ll work with a wide range of learners, including adults, children, and corporate clients, in one‑on‑one or small group settings. Lessons may be conducted in person or online, giving you variety in your daily schedule. You’ll adapt your teaching style to suit different learning levels and goals while following Berlitz’s clear instructional framework.
Instructors are expected to come to lessons prepared and on time, review student progress regularly, and provide encouraging, constructive feedback. You’ll record lesson notes and progress in Berlitz systems to ensure continuity and a high-quality learning experience for students.
Professionalism is an important part of the role. You’ll create a positive, respectful classroom atmosphere and communicate effectively with students, center staff, and management. Berlitz also provides training and ongoing support, so you’ll have opportunities to continue developing your teaching skills and grow within the organization.
Being a Berlitz Japan instructor means being part of an international, supportive environment where you can make a real difference in students’ personal and professional lives while building valuable cross-cultural experience in Japan.
A minimum of a BA or BS degree is required.
Berlitz Japan traces its roots back to 1966, when the first Berlitz language center opened in Akasaka, Tokyo, during Japan’s period of rapid internationalization. The Japanese operation was formally established as a local corporation in 1980, building on the global Berlitz brand founded in the United States in 1878 and known worldwide for the immersive Berlitz Method® of language instruction.
Today, Berlitz Japan holds a distinctive position in the Japanese language‑education market. Unlike many eikaiwa schools that focus primarily on casual conversation, Berlitz is widely recognized for its strong corporate training presence, serving thousands of Japanese companies with business‑focused language and cross‑cultural programs. Its emphasis on professional outcomes, structured methodology, and multi‑language offerings sets it apart from competitors.
As one of the most established and trusted international language providers in Japan, Berlitz Japan combines global standards with local expertise, making it a leading choice for both individual learners and corporate clients seeking practical, results‑driven communication skills in a global business environment.
