Position Overview:
Berlitz Japan is seeking a Spanish instructor for a long-term university program beginning Spring 2026. The instructor will initially teach beginner and pre intermediate levels following the university’s established curriculum, textbooks, and academic calendar.
This Spring assignment is the first step in an ongoing program that will continue through future semesters. We are looking to build a long and productive working relationship with the instructor selected.
Schedule & Availability
Class Days: Mondays and Thursdays
Required Availability: 8:45–12:30
This covers preparation, both class periods, and transition time.
Class Times
• Beginner: 9:00–10:30
• Pre-Intermediate: 10:45–12:15
Special Scheduling Notes:
• May 7 (Thu): Wednesday schedule (no classes)
• July 24 (Fri): Monday schedule (classes held)
• July 25 (Sat): University make up day (if required)
End of Semester:
• Final exam date: Monday, July 27
Qualification Requirements:
• Native or native equivalent Spanish proficiency
• University or adult learner teaching experience preferred (not mandatory)
• Strong communication and classroom management skills
• Reliable, punctual, and able to follow an academic schedule
• Must be available for:
o All Monday & Thursday classes
o Final exams on July 27
o Any required make up days
• Valid visa or legal eligibility to work in Japan
• Valid references
• No visible tattoos or piercings (per Berlitz and university policy)
Responsibilities:
• Teach Beginner (A1) and Pre Intermediate (A2.1) Spanish classes twice weekly
• Follow the university’s curriculum, textbook sequence, and academic policies
• Deliver lesson plans aligned with learning objectives
• Conduct and grade final examinations
• Maintain accurate attendance and administrative records
• Communicate professionally with Berlitz staff and university personnel
A minimum of a BA or BS degree is required.
Additional Information:
This is a fixed term university teaching assignment for the Spring 2026 semester, with renewal expected for Fall and subsequent terms. Contracts are issued annually.
The instructor must be able to commit to the full semester to ensure continuity for the students and the university.

Remuneration:
45-minute units of work time are paid for at a rate of ¥2,040.
Payments are made on the 28th of each month based on a salary cycle that runs from the 18th of one month to the 17th of the next.
Travel costs
Travel is fully reimbursed for your commute between your home and place of work.
